Question What do I need to bring?
Answer We suggest the following:
  • Your typical clothing required for your length of stay, such as pants, jacket, t-shirts, shorts, etc.
  • sweater for layering, if needed
  • hat for the sun, sunglasses and sunscreen
  • camera, video camera and/or binoculars

  • all weather gear and tackle (if you wish.  We do provide this free of charge.)
  • cell phones work in our Campbell River location, but do not in our alternative destinations.

Question Are fishing licenses included?
Answer No, they are an extra charge based on the duration of stay and whether you are a resident of Canada or not, and whether you wish to retain your catch.  We do sell them at our front desk for our guests and we are happy to answer any questions you have regarding them.  You will need to have the license on your person at all times when you are fishing.  If you are freshwater fishing as well, it is a separate license required.

Question Does my fishing license work for both Campbell River and the West Coast and Alternate destinations?
Answer In most cases, yes it will, unless you have chosen the Combo Fishing Package, which involves two different licenses, one each for fresh water and for tidal water.  Each license is for the province for the duration of time you have purchased.

Question How much experience does your fishing guides have?
Answer All of our guides have several years of guiding experience and are fully equipped with the best gear to ensure you have the fishing experience of a lifetime.  Our guides do this for a living and are on the water every day so they know the waters, the conditions and the migratory patterns of the fish and bait.  We will take you to the fish.

Question How do we get our catch home?
Answer The guide will clean and package your catch for you.  As a guest at our lodge, we will store your catch in our fish freezers until your departure.  If you would like your fish processed in any way or shipped, we can suggest someone locally, but we do not do it ourselves.  There are strict government regulations regarding this procedure and only specific facilities are licensed by the Canadian government.

Question Is there a guarantee to catch fish?
Answer We do our best to ensure a catch for you but there are no guarantees in sport fishing, that is what makes it a sport.  However, we have based our business, for 57 years, sport fishing The Salmon Capital of the World for a reason!  Check out our photo gallery.  Tight lines!

Question What kinds of fish can I expect to catch?
Answer This question is best answered by viewing our fishing calendar pages, since it depends on the time of year and the location you wish to fish.

Though there are many more species of fish available in our waters, we listed the most frequent or most popular species caught.

Question Is it possible to fly into the West Coast as well as fly out?
Answer Unfortunately, there is often marine fog/haze in the mornings on the West Coast which would prevent a plane from landing in the area.  It usually burns off by mid-morning, but it's valuable fishing time lost.  It's best to drive in, get some quality fishing done and fly out when the weather is much more predictable, if you choose that convenience.

Question Why is there an additional cost for bait and how much is it?
Answer There is an additional charge for bait only if it is used.  At certain times of the year, the water conditions and feeding patterns of the fish dictate whether bait is used or not.  The cost can range from $14 (typical for Campbell River fishing) up to approximately $50 (for halibut fishing in our West Coast / Nootka Sound / Gold River destination).  The size of halibut in general and the techniques used require a larger volume of bait than for salmon.  Crabs and prawns also require the use of bait (minimal cost).
